Next up for Meet the Team Monday is Seána Gurn, who works as the Production/Accounts Manager for Diamond Designs.
When did you start working for Diamond Designs?
I started working in Diamond Designs in 1996. I would come in some afternoons to do the dispatch/post run and a few odd jobs (that no one wanted to do!). I had originally wanted to do hotel management when I finished school but, after working in Diamond Designs, I changed my mind and decided to do Fashion Management in college instead. I studied in Belfast for 4 years with a one year placement in a manufacturing company in Cavan. I worked with Diamond Designs for 6 months then went to Australia in January 2002 for 12 months. When I returned from Australia in 2003 I joined Diamond Designs and have been here since!
What is your favourite part about working at Diamond Designs?
I can honestly say that I enjoy my work and am happy to come to work everyday and with production there can be different challenges daily. As you know, Anne is my mother and Aisling (who you will meet next week) is my sister. I think we work well together. We all have different strengths and weaknesses and as a whole this has worked well over the years. Working with family leaves it a very relaxed atmosphere and also provides good flexibility as a mother of 3.
What is your favourite product?
Personally, I like the beauty range as all the styles are named after my daughters and nieces, which in turn leaves it easier for the customer to remember a name rather than a product code. We started off with our oldest niece Shannon. This would be one of my favourite tunics as the square neckline is very flattering on all.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
I met my (current) husband when he served me a drink in my grand-aunt’s bar in Bundoran, Co Donegal, while I was staying with a girl I met in Australia 😊
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Don't try to impress everyone. The unhappiest people are those who care the most about what other people think.
Favourite:
- Film : Little Women – we watched this on repeat growing up.
- Book : The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, [which was a] holiday read.
- Song: Simply the Best – Tina Turner
We will be back next week with our next interview, so keep your eyes peeled!
