You cannot expect to create a successful salon single-handed, it’s all about teamwork! You and the staff have to work together, you have to be on the same page, and you have to have the same goal for it to work. Ultimately if you look after the staff, they will look after you.

Show some passion

Encourage staff to be passionate about what they are doing. Yes, it’s a job, they come to work, and they get paid, and that’s why people work, but within the salon industry it is so much more than that, it’s a very creative business. If your team is expressing their passion for the work that they are doing, and they are showing that they are enjoying what they do (putting their utmost effort into the work that they are doing) then the client will most likely pick up on that!

Clients love to feel like they have your full attention and passion within the job and that you’re totally committed to creating the best possible job you can do for them because if they don’t.... they will go elsewhere!

Look the part

It’s absolutely vital that when a client walks into a salon, they like what they see, it is the best starting point for any salon if the staff are well-groomed and looking the part. It’s promoting your company if a client can see what is on offer, they may like a staff members hair or nails for instance and ask for something similar if it’s visible as they step through the door!

Beauty uniforms are also essential, not only do they make the salon team look nice and professional but also, they are great for advertising the salon when staff members are out and about (during lunch breaks or before and after work!) Don’t forget to display the salon’s Logo on the beauty uniform though!

Lead the team

You are the boss, and every company needs one! You are also the team leader, and you have to lead the team, you have to encourage the team, inspire the team and motivate the team and you also have to set the best example because if you don’t, you cannot expect to get the best out of your staff. Get them as emotionally involved as you are!

Rewards for success

Many companies nowadays will reward the “employer of the month” it’s a simple way to encourage staff to work their utmost best.  Everyone likes to be valued, and if their hard work was to go unnoticed it is a bit of a downer so the ideal way to show your staff how much you appreciate their hard work, start rewarding them! It could be a certificate or a salon voucher, whatever you decide, but remember to put the staff members picture/Name up in the salon for that whole month to encourage the others to try for that reward.

Not only that you but you can be sure that the staff member who receives the most recent “employer of the month” reward will then post about it on social media, again some much-welcomed advertising for the salon. It’s a no brainer really!
